I one time performed as "Allen the Balloon Man" at a restuarant.  I went around to a table and seen a little boy who just would not smile no matter what I did.  I think I made him a balloon hat and balloon dog.  I used comical patter as much as possible.  The kid was as sweet as possible and tried to show that he was thankful for the balloons.  He then asked me to make a heart for his mom.  I pulled out a balloon and made a heart and then created two love birds to put inside it.  I looked over and seen his father have slight tears on the sides of his eyes.  That is when the father informed me that his mother needed a heart transplant.  If I recall, I think he said that her body already rejected a heart that was attempted for transplant.  I am not totally sure if my memory was correct at that moment, because I then realized that the boy was asking for a REAL heart for his mom and not just a balloon.  There I was dressed in rainbow pants and holding a balloon bag while all this was taking place.  I think the boy thanked me for the balloons as he was leaving.  He then looked up at me and said, "Pray for her".  After that, it took everything in my power to put on a happy face and go to the next table to perform.
