When I woke up a few weeks ago, I never knew I would ever have a desire to buy a Barbie doll.  Not only did I buy one Barbie doll, but I bought 119 Barbie dolls.

Barbie Dolls Sorting Recently, I went to the Post Office to mail off a package of an item I sold on eBay.  On the way back I stopped at a garage sale.  There was two big boxes of Barbie dolls that were for sale.  As I passed by them the guy who was selling them said, "They make nice give aways to a bunch of Girl Scouts".  For whatever reason, I picked up one.  Maybe I was just trying to be sociable with the guy.  It was at that moment I saw the year of 1966 stamped on Barbie's back.  The guy then further explained that he cleaned out his mother's house and these dolls were found there.  At this moment I wanted as many of the Barbie dolls as I could get because I could see dollar signs before my eyes.  I knew that the the original Barbie doll is worth about $1000 to $2000.  Then came the scary part.  How much would he offer me for them?  When he told me that he only wanted 25 cents a piece for them and that there was 120 in the boxes, I thought I was going to jump for joy.  I thought for a moment on if I really wanted to invest in these dolls.  Just then a girl came over and asked her mom to buy her one.  As I looked at the doll in her hands, I think my inner voice said something to the fact that I hope that was not the one that was going to make me money.  After the girl left he made a good offer to me for all 119 Barbie dolls and the separate box of clothes for the dolls.  I knew that either way, I was going to make my money back on this sale.

A friend and me then went through all the Barbie dolls and tried figure out their value. I found out that the very old Barbies were made from a mold in which they have holes through their feet. I was also disappointed to find out that the stamp on the back that read 1966 was probably not the year they were made. The stamp is just the date of the copyright. In fact, I found later dates of 1984 on the back of their heads even though their bodies had dates of 1966. After searching on the internet, I also found that the clothes seem to be going much better than even some of the dolls.

Holding Barbie Dolls After looking through all the Barbie dolls and using my best judgment, I don't think I found any doll that is going to make me a lot of money.  However; I do know that I will double or even triple the amount of money I spent for them.  Who knows, I might even get more than that.  My plan is to sell them on an auction website.

In the mean time, if you have any suggestions on how to tell values of Barbies, please leave comments to let me know.  I have already looked at the feet of most of the Barbies and they don't have a hole through their feet.  I know that is one big determining factor of how much they will sell for.

By the way, since this is suppose to be a family style blog/website, I have taken it upon myself to purposely blur certain….umm….parts of the Barbie that show in the picture.  Ok….I am sure I got a good laugh out of that.
