I recently spotted a praying mantis outside one day.  I went ahead and captured some video, of the creature, using my iPhone.   The video is of the praying mantis crawling along the side of a building.  Every once in awhile, the praying mantis would stop and stare at me.  It was almost like it had a feeling of what all I was doing.  I have never seen such a huge praying mantis before.  I had remembered that the praying mantis I saw when I was little were much smaller.

I learned in kindergarden or first grade that the female praying mantis will kill the male praying mantis.  Think about this little situation.

Female Praying Mantis: “I want to have kids”
Male Praying Mantis: “I would like kids too”
Some where during their discussion, the female praying mantis bites off the male praying mantis’ head.
OOOhhh great…this story just in time for Halloween.

How do you think I felt when I heard about this in kindergarden or first grade?  Well, it really must of sunk into me.  One day the teacher asked us to do some homework where we were to come up with some sentences of our own.   I don’t remember the exact rules of the homework assignment, but I do remember me coming up with this sentence.

“One praying mantis ate the other prayinig mantis”.

Not to mention, my dad had no idea that we had seen a praying mantis at school or been told any rituals about them.  To make a long story short, I think he made me revise the sentences I came up with.  As I look back on this, I have to laugh at the situation.  My dad probably was wondering what they were teaching me at school.
